Garage door questions and typical prices
What does spring replacement usually cost?
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Replace one torsion spring | about $180 to $250 |
| Replace both springs (a pair) | about $350 to $480 |
Ranges published on the Okotoks pricing pages of garage door companies, as collected in October 2026. They are typical ranges, not quotes: the real price depends on the door, the parts and the technician.
We don't have typical ranges for openers, cables, panels or new doors. Ask the technician for a written quote.
Can I fix a broken spring myself?
Torsion springs hold a lot of stored energy and can cause serious injury. Don't try to adjust, unwind or replace a torsion spring yourself, and don't loosen the cables or bottom brackets. Leave spring work to a garage door technician.
Should I keep using the opener if the door is heavy or crooked?
No. If the door is heavy to lift, off its track or has a loose cable, stop using the opener and keep people and cars clear until a technician has looked at it.
Who will do the work?
This website is a referral service. We match your request with an independent local garage door technician when one is available. We aren't a garage door company ourselves. The technician sets the price and does the work. Any agreement is between you and them.
What should I ask before work starts?
- A written price for parts and labour before the job starts.
- Whether they carry liability insurance.
- What coverage on parts and labour the technician offers, in writing.
- For a new door with a deposit: their Alberta licensing for taking deposits.
