Garage door opener repair and replacement
If the door works by hand but not with the remote or wall button, the problem may be the opener, its safety sensors, the remote or the power supply.
Safety. Torsion springs hold a lot of stored energy and can cause serious injury. Don't try to adjust, unwind or replace a torsion spring yourself, and don't loosen the cables or bottom brackets. Leave spring work to a garage door technician.
Common signs
- The opener hums or clicks but the door doesn't move
- The door reverses before it closes
- The remote or keypad stopped working
- The opener is noisy or very slow
Good to know
Simple checks first: is the opener plugged in and the breaker on? Are the safety sensors near the floor lined up and clean? Have the remote batteries been replaced?
If the door is heavy to lift by hand, the springs may be the real problem. Don't keep running the opener on a door with a broken spring.
