Off-track doors and broken cables
A door that has come off its track, is hanging crooked, or has a loose or snapped cable can fall. Stop using it, keep people and cars clear, and ask a technician to look at it.
Safety. Torsion springs hold a lot of stored energy and can cause serious injury. Don't try to adjust, unwind or replace a torsion spring yourself, and don't loosen the cables or bottom brackets. Leave spring work to a garage door technician.
Common signs
- The door is crooked or one side is lower
- Rollers have come out of the track
- A cable is loose, frayed or hanging
- The door jammed partway
Good to know
Don't try to force the door up or down, and don't run the opener.
Cables are under tension from the springs. Leave cable and bracket work to a technician.
